Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara......

The new Grand Vitara has made a foray into the Indian market without as much hoopla as the other SUVs have made, obviously with the massive disappointment that accompanied the previous offering. Referred to as the Escudo all around this CBU has been launched here as the Grand Vitara. Cannot say much about the grandeur but does look poised to please and gain back some lost pride!...

MARUTI SX4...

Maruti Udyog Limited, the largest automotive manufacturer of India was established in February 1981 though the production started only in 1983. The company started as a 50-50 JV between Suzuki of Japan and Maruti. The government of India held 18.28% stake untill recently. This holding stake was sold off to the financial institutions in May, 2007. Suzuki has gradually increased its holding percentage to 54.2. The first offering from Maruti, the 800, was the bestseller for a long time till its sibling, the Alto, took over. Selling over 5,00,000 cars annually in the domestic market, Maruti exports close to 30,000 units to several countries. Of late, the Indian giant was facing stiff competition from various manufacturers and Maruti did well by launching the Swift which is a modern and exudes a lifestyle image. The trend continued with the SX4. The large portfoilio takes care of the options available to the customer.

Unlike India, Suzuki SX4 is not a new name for Japan, North America and some of the European countries. It has replaced many enthusiasts' first-love, Baleno in India. With 1.6L 102bhp engine, this car is all set to take on Honda City, Ford Fiesta and Chevrolet Aveo. Maruti is counting on SX4 for taking Indian mid-size segment by storm, let's see if SX4 would be able to make Maruti a leader in this segment as well...

HYUNDAI Accent....

The Accent is a good value-for-money sedan. It looks dated and only the petrol GLS variant is available. But still looks impressive and does carry the stature of a sedan. The styling cuts and the profile are typical of a sedan with excellent build quality...

The Cute OPTRA

Like the Optra from the rear, SRV from the front but unlike either when you pop the hood. The 2L, 121PS common rail diesel engine delivers as an exhilarating experience. Other strongholds of Optra are carried forward with the Magnum. Ride is plush, interiors exude rich feel, gearbox has improved. Steering is still a little lazy though. Overall, a hoot to drive.

Toyota INNOVA..!!!!!!

The Innova has a much better image more than any other MUV/MPV. The styling cues are nothing more than a mini van, maybe a little sleeker in design. Essentially, a MUV should be able to carry people and loads comfortably and as economically as possible. This puts a lot of restraint when it comes to freedom in terms of styling. But the Innova does manage to break the barrier a little with curves and arches instead of a boxy and brick-like exterior....

$..Honda Civic..$

The Honda Civic is quite a looker. It appears futuristic inside and out and there’s no doubting it. Place it in the Star Wars series and it would look completely at home. The cab-forward design has been carried on to the Civic too which partly helps it achieve an aerodynamic shape. The Honda Civic is a low-slung car which endows it with a sporty stance that is enhanced by the perfect harmony between the front end, side and the rear of the car. The V-shaped hood and fenders merge perfectly while at the rear you get a good dose of style. The double-barreled tail pipe looks stunning and adds to the style quotient....

Skoda Octavia..????

Octavia is an orderly design with no unwanted mass. It’s more about straight lines than about curves. It looks very European with the subtle nose section and high waistline. The build quality is as good as it can get and is faintly reflected in the way the Octavia looks. The Octavia is based on the previous-generation VW Golf, hence the limited space in the cabin. While seated in the rear, you will have limited legroom but the story is completely different at the front as the seats at front are enormously accommodating. The quality of the interior is quite good and it exudes a tough feel. However, a little more luxury would have been welcome, since in its current state, the interior looks drab. Ergonomics are top notch, all the controls have a quality feel to them, and there’s a huge boot which can easily swallow an apartment!...

HONDA CITY......

Third-generation Honda City powered by 1.5l, 116bhp, i-VTEC engine is all set to rule the C-segment again. The new City has ABS and airbags as standard across range, quite nice interiors, revolutionary (but controversial) looks and is priced very aggressively. It certainly is a great deal!

Hyundai Verna...#

From outside, the Hyundai Verna looks like quite a grown-up car, and before we carry on one must highlight one fact - the Hyundai Verna is actually the next generation Accent - but Hyundai did not want to vacate the lower end of the ‘C’ segment and has continued production of the old Accent. Anyway, outside as well as inside, the Verna feels far more sophisticated than the Accent. The question is whether it is more sophisticated than the Honda City and The Ford Fiesta its two primary competitors.

Ford Fiesta***

The Ikon, you would recall, was quite a looker (I think it still is) but the Fiesta? Not so. The Fiesta was developed for Indian conditions to replicate the success of the Ikon, and it has done decently thus far. The Fiesta is not as attractive or sporty-looking as the ‘Josh Machine’ and it’s the lacklustre styling that makes it look so run-of-the-mill. It looks mature and is aimed at appealing to the masses. Even the attractive mesh grille section and large headlamps cannot save the day for Fiesta on the looks front. The rear has some nice elements and the tail lamp cluster tries its best to add some style quotient to the otherwise bland design...
